PROS: Uses hands to get leverage vs. the run and shows ability to anchor at the point of attack. Has a nice motor and shows some ability in lateral pursuit. Shows potential as a bull rusher and a decent swim move. Occasionally will shoot gaps to get upfield and pressure quarterback.
CONS: Doesn't have any real pass rush moves. Needs to improve his hand use, especailly when it comes to getting off blocks better. Sometimes relies on stunts in order to get free of blockers. Lacks the ideal first step and won't consistently be able to get penetration.
OVERVIEW: Ross has the size you like in a guy that can play in a two-gap scheme.
NFL FORECAST: He can compete as a backup nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme. He'll flash some quickness upfield, but it's not consistent enough where you think he could really excel in a one-gap 4-3 scheme. Instead, he's probably a guy that could probably put on a bit more muscle and be one of those massive space eaters in a 3-4. I'm not sure he has great starting potential, but who knows down the line he could be a capable starter. But most likely, at least over the next few years, he's probably just a guy that can rotate as a backup with another better player to try and keep him fresh.
ATL FORECAST: He has size to help out the Falcons run defense and could challenge for the No. 4 spot right away. But he's not as disruptive as the team seemingly prefers and it's doubtful he would stick long-term in Atlanta. Maybe for a year or two but then pushed aside by a more disruptive player.
VALUE: For a 3-4 team looking for a developmental backup, the highest he should go is the fifth round. But overall a nice late round selection.
