Lamarr Houston - DT - Houston Height: 6'3 Weight: 302 40 Time: 4.90 Projected: 3rd
Positives:
- 3 year starter - Very athletic - Converted DE - Quick off the snap - Gets a lot of penetration - Strong - Uses his hands well - Plays with good leverage - Non-stop motor - Good tackler - Flows well to the ball carrier, quick to get around blocks - Can play in the 4-3 and 3-4 - Hard worker, gained weight and holds it well to play DE
Negatives:
- Is still undersized - Struggles mightily vs. double teams - Will struggle against stronger guards - Will get eaten up by power running teams in the NFL - Needs to improve and expand his pass rush moves - Doesn't change directions very well - Misses easy QB sacks because he doesn't break down - Was arrested for DWI in 2008
Overview:
Lamarr Houston is a very quick, 1 gap penetrating DE. He will be at his best playing for a team like the Colts or Falcons who require quickness from their DT's. They will be able to penetrate and make some stops in the backfield. However, he will struggle against the run simply because he is still undersized. He has worked hard in the weight room to get to over 300 but was still playing closer to 290 during the season. He also struggled against some of the strong guards and tackles at the senior bowl and couldn't generate much of a pass rush against them. He got stood up and at times was knocked to the ground. He offers a lot of versatility and can play the five technique in the 3-4. This will cause his stock to rise a bit and he might be drafted in the 2nd round because of that.
