Virginia Tech Senior
PROS: Has a good first step with the speed and burst off the edge to turn the corner. Has potential as a bull rusher and also shows a nice counter move. Plays with a good motor. Can get leverage vs. the run because of his first step. Shows ability to make plays on the backside pursuit and closes quickly on the ball.
CONS: Doesn't have much experience playing in space and not comfortable there. Can get caught out of position in space and doesn't maintain contain on the edge. Needs to add more moves and mostly relies on his edge speed. Struggles to take on blockers and not much of a factor at the point of attack.
OVERVIEW: He's an undersized defensive end that might get a look at linebacker, but he's raw there. His only year as a starter was as a senior and was a productive bookend to Jason Worilds. Finished year with 56 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Also had a combined 29 hurries in his career.
NFL FORECAST: Brown is an undersized defensive end that can come into the league right away and contribute as a situational pass rusher. But if teams try and convert him to linebacker, his length to impact significantly increases. He is athletic enough to eventually make the conversion, but he'll be a work in progress because of how unnatural he is playing in space. And more than likely even if he played linebacker, he would only be a backup that would fit best in schemes that use their outside linebackers mainly as pass rushers and limit his responsibilities vs. the run and in coverage. If he can bulk up he can be a decent situational pass rusher. He'll never be a starter in the league, but his speed and quickness off the edge as a pass rusher means he should be able to find a niche somewhere as a role player.
ATL FORECAST: Brown would help the Falcons pass rush, but really isn't going to offer a lot more than Sidbury. He could come into camp and potentially win a jump because the team like his speed and motor, but becaus eof his lack of size, he's likely going to have to spend a year on the practice squad. He's a role player that could develop as a fourth and rotational end and could be a nice guy that can give you 3-5 sacks off the bench down the road.
VALUE: Because of his value as a reserve player he's worth a pick. But because he's limited in size and a project at linebacker, he shouldn't be taken before the sixth round by either a 3-4 or 4-3 team.
