Antonio Coleman
6-1/255
Auburn Senior

PROS: Has a nice first step with good straight-line speed. Has a nice motor and will try and make plays in pursuit. Flashes potential as a bull rusher. Can play contain on the edge and shows the ability to break down in space and make a tackle.
CONS: Needs to improve vs. the run and gets pushed back. Doesn't disengage from blocks and struggles at the point of attack. Needs to improve his hand use. Lacks any real pass rush moves, and relies on edge speed. Doesn't consistently show the burst and first step off the edge, and doesn't really possess the know-how to dip the shoulder and turn the corner. Doesn't show much comfort moving in space.
OVERVIEW: Coleman is an undersized end that is the epitome of a tweener at end and outside linebacker. It really is the tale of two Colemans. The junior version of him played much faster and showed much greater athleticism and potential. The senior version of him, not so much. Despite lacking evidence on tape, produced more as a senior than junior year. Sacks increased from 6 to 10, and tackles for loss went from 10.5 to 16.5. He played at around 265 this past year. Had a reportedly minor back injury in the spring.
NFL FORECAST: Teams will have to figure out which guy they are getting, the junior or senior version. The junior guy looked like he could be an impact pass rusher either as an end in the 4-3 or make a nice conversion to outside linebacker in the 3-4. But the senior guy just looked a bit lost. I think he's probably more likely to impact early on if a team keeps him as a situational pass rusher at end. But he does flash the ability to convert to linebacker, so a team wouldn't be wrong in trying him there either. At linebacker, there is at least greater long-term potential for him to be a starter. At end, he'll just be a rotational guy even if he bulks up. He was an effective bull rusher at end, but didn't use it enough. So unless he bulks up and adds a lot more moves, I don't see much of a bright future for him at end. At linebacker, he's not really comfortable moving in space, but I see the athleticism and potential to play there. But even there, I wouldn't expect him to be an impact pass rusher. He could be a decent rush linebacker for a team and be somewhat productive, but more than likely he'd be a career backup there as well.
ATL FORECAST: For the Falcons, his best position is playing end. And while he has some potential to develop, I don't like his chances. He has more potential than either Sidbury or Biermann if based on his junior tape, but the senior tape indicates that he is just as much a project if not more than them. So I'm not confident he would be able to unseat either in the rotation. If he lives up to his junior tape, he could be a decent starter in Atlanta down the road, but I wouldn't expect him to. And more than likely he'd be gone within three years.
VALUE: As a junior, I graded him as a second round value. As a senior, he's at best a fifth rounder, and probably more for a 3-4 team than 4-3 team.
