40: 5.21 (Campus)
PROS: Plays with good pop off the snap. Gets his hands up quickly in pass protection. Initiates contact and can lock on. Finishes blocks and plays with mean streak. Does a nice job getting position in the running game. Has ability to take out linebackers on the second level.
CONS: Struggles when blocking on an island. Lacks ideal strength and footwork. Not as effective when a guy is lined up over him.
OVERVIEW: Fits well in the middle of Pitts' line because he is aggressive and plays with mean streak. A JUCO player that is a two-year starter. Missed soem time as a junior with a broken right ankle.
NFL FORECAST: Houser is undersized. He's not a guy that is going to be able to face top defensive tackles, particulalry in pass protection. But he is able to get position and leverage as a run blocker vs. bigger tackles because he's so good off the snap. So he's a guy that has the ability to get the job done, potentially as a starter despite not having great size or strength. He can work well in a zone-blocking scheme. A team that is looking for a fiesty guy that wants to build a physical front five would be happy to have Houser. In that way he reminds me of Shaun O'Hara in that he can be the guy that can anchor one of the top run-blocking lines in the league. Individually he won't be anything special, but wouldn't be surprised if he is a starter on a Top 10 rushing line for a number of years.
ATL FORECAST: He could work as a potential replacement for McClure down the line. He has the mean streak to succeed under Boudreau, and he should be an upgrade as a run blocker over McClure because of his ability to get position. But he probably won't be any better able to take on bigger defensive tackles in pass protection than McClure. But he could be a nice starter, who won't be great, but does fit the workman like mentality that Boudreau likes. Could compete for the starting job in 2011 and at the very least would make a solid backup if he doesn't run away with the job.
VALUE: Houser is worth a late round pick as a seventh rounder for some team looking for a run-first center.
