Falcons Sign Robert McClain
March 28th at 5:35pm CST by Peter Sowards
The Falcons have signed restricted free agent Robert McClain, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun (via Twitter). McClain, a cornerback who started five games last season for Atlanta, was the team’s only restricted free agent this offseason. The tender McClain signed was for one year and $1.431MM.

So that's Trufant, Alford, Arenas, and McClain.

Smart move, he's serviceable and comes at a minimal cost.

He should be our new free safety.

Potentially the reason why Atlanta hasn't signed a safety yet? I gotta figure its one of the following:

- Existing roster member will replace DeCoud (Motta/McClain).
- Atlanta is planning on drafting a capable start in the draft (guessing 3rd/4th round).
- Atlanta is still in play for Champ Bailey who is willing to move to S.

I'm going to put my money on Atlanta going with Zeke Motta as our new starting safety replacing DeCoud. I've read that the Falcon coaching staff was fairly high on him and suspect he'll get a 1-year kick the tires look next year.

Could Arenas be the FS? I am not very familiar with him.

From what I've read he doesn't seem like much of a hitter and might be a touch undersized. I would probably guess no on this one.
