Falcons agreed to terms with CB/KR Javier Arenas

Postby The Mattural » Tue Mar 18, 2014 5:07 pm

So the Falcons agreed to terms with CB/KR Javier Arenas, formerly of the Cardinals, on a one-year contract. So they have replaced the man love affair they had with the Jags with the Chiefs now? I wonder if this moves means they are out of the market for Hester.

I like this signing, he's a number 3 caliber cb, who will at least initially be our number 4, thus improving our secondary when we play dime, and also adding a kick return element to boot.

Supposedly Hester is still in Atlanta and still in play. Interesting...

Also Arenas was picked with pick we sent to KC for Tony G. It now has come full circle. Ha ha

Just expanding on your post, Adam Schefter reported that sources close to Hester said that Atlanta is where he wants to be.

From what I've seen and heard Hester never left Atlanta. Probably safe to assume he will be a Falcon at this point. Only for KR/PR duties though.

As an Alabama fan, I am excited to see Javy in a Falcons jersey! One thing to keep in mind, Arenas was 172 yards short of Brandon James' NCAA record for combined return yards in a career. He has the skills to do it, and I think playing on the ATL turf is going to benefit him. He was a good CB in college, and played well at times in KC. I never saw any Cardinals' game last year, so I can't comment on that. Hopefully he can help the Birds get back to winning, in one way or another (or both!)....

If nothing else he can add some competition on the depth chart for CB and if we don't sign Hester; push our current options there as well.
