NFR: NFL is Rigged, How league fixed NFC Championship Game

Interesting watch…Worth 15 minutes.

What he has described is a poorly officiated game, that is very clear. But making the leap that this is one poorly officiated game to that the league regularly fixes game is a huge and groundless leap.

His premise that the league fixes games because there is so much money to be made, yet his final reason for why the league fixed the game (to make the most compelling storyline of #1 offense vs. #1 defense) just doesn't fit.

If it's about money, then the league doesn't have any strong reason to fix the game. Seattle's road attendance in averaged about 700 more fans per game than San Francisco's. Does the possibility that Seahawk fans travel slightly better than the 49ers indicate enough of an incentive that the league to fix the game.

Not to mention, his original premise that it's about the TV ratings. Well guess what, San Francisco is a larger TV market than Seattle. San Fran is 6th largest, while Seattle is 14th in the U.S. Boston is the 7th largest, while Denver is the 18th largest. If the league was regularly fixing games due to the financial benefits of TV markets, then a Denver-Seattle matchup is the least favorable one among the teams finishing in the Final 4.

Unfortunately, so many people are gullible enough to buy into this conspiracy theory. It was a poorly officiated game guy, leave it at that.

Conspiracy theories abound about everything from politics to finance to sport to the weather but my general belief is that a conspiracy requires too much cooperation and too much silence form too many people to generally be successful.
