Well, goodbye Julius Peppers, Richard Sherman, Von Miller, J.J. Watt, Julio Jones, Darrelle Revis, Peyton Manning, Jamaal Charles, and Adrian Peterson. Your NFL careers are soon to be at an end!

HGH testing for players soon?

NFLPA director DeMaurice Smith said during a Thursday press conference that the players and NFL are nearly done with an agreement on HGH testing, but there is a lingering hangup that has kept them from getting a system put in place.

"He applauded the league’s drug program and their willingness to revisit issues over time, for example. One way they’re doing that is working toward an agreement on HGH testing, something that Smith said is 98 percent done," wrote Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com.

"The two sides continue to disagree about a neutral arbitrator that would rule on any disputes instead of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Smith cited a recent case from baseball as part of the union’s belief that a neutral arbitrator is necessary in all cases rather than the limited form the league wants."

That case, of course, is Alex Rodriguez's battle with Major League Baseball about his lengthy suspension, which was reduced from 211 games to 162 games by an arbitrator.

"We believe that neutral arbitration is one that enhances and strengthens our system entirely," Smith told reporters. "Our players are not in favor of any of those carve-outs."

This has been a stumbling block dating back to at least the fall, when Goodell made it clear that he does not want to relinquish the final say he currently holds over appeals when a player disagrees with a suspension handed down by the league. If the two sides can somehow come to an agreement on this element in the coming months, we may well see HGH testing in place for 2014.
