Lack of veteran leadership

Postby AngryJohnny51 » Wed Oct 09, 2013 2:14 pm

I haven't seen this issue touched on yet, but how much does a lack of veteran leadership players hurt this team? We have guys who lead by example, Ryan and Gonzo to name 2, but not any real in your face "raw-raw" guys.

This team has been "off" all year, even before the injuries piled up. Anyone think it would have made a difference if there was a guy or two kicking ass in the lockeroom?

Thoughts?

A. Samuels is that guy but being hurt takes away being a player with leadership.

I doubt it could help this line unless the person came from the line---either side.

Asante's a veteran, but not a leader, despite his great on the field performances, teams are quick to get rid of him as he's all about himself and not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Our other vets on Defense, are Babs, the dog killer who seems to have questionable off the field behaviour, and Osi the locker room cancer from the Giants.... You may be on to something, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

On offense the line clearly misses Todd as there's no one in charge of the group.

It is entirely possible there is some ass-kicking going on behind the scenes that none of us is aware of.

The best leaders aren't necessarily the outwardly public ones.

No team has the "rah rah" guys now that Ray Lewis is retired. 98% of the leaders in the NFL are "lead by example" types.

Not sure about the percentage there, P, but I do agree the outwardly demonstrative type guys are rare. I think Brady is a fairly emotional type leader but it is more because of what he has done than that he just showed up that way. Rah rah really is like a sugar rush more times than not in whatever endeavor people undertake. It might work with a bunch of college kids or fresh green army recruits but once you get a little gray in your beard that s*** don't flush.
