I don't think it was really about the money, but rather a promise for more playing time. Mathis has a good situation here in Atlanta because he's the top corner off teh bench. He's managed quite a bit of playing time the past 2 seasons because our starters have trouble staying healthy.
Mathis was only going to leave elsewhere if a team was willing to allow him to compete for a starting position. I doubt he was going to get much nibbles on the open market considering he's only 5-9 and approaching 31 years old. That's why he's back.
I'm glad to see McCrary back. He's the best blocker amongst the stable of FBs we had last year. He can spell Griffith in goalline situations and be used in tandem with Duckett in such situations. He's a guy that could be a starter in this league.
