You better get on the Redskins/RG3 bandwagon

Postby Pudge » Mon Dec 03, 2012 11:14 am

Root for the Redskins to run the table, get that 6th seed, and then upset the Packers in Lambeau a la Vick in 2002.

That way the Falcons first playoff game will be against the Redskins, not the Giants/Bears.

I'm not scared of Chicago. Will see about the Giants in a few weeks. Be confident for once Pudge.

I'm not scared of Chicago, either, but I would not want to play them. Much rather see RG3 and the Redskins than the Bears.

Confident? Why should I ever be confident about the Falcons? How long have you been a fan of this team?

That is true but the team is 11-1 that may not be all pretty but they have gotten the job done consistently.

This is what I know, or at least what I think I know...

... this team's success continues to come from a small margin of error. And I know when you need to win 12 or 13 games by such a small margin, it's much harder to do so, and much more likely that come Week 19 if that happens to be the 12th or 13th game, then it's much more likely that it becomes the one game where you don't overcome that margin for error.

You can argue that this 2012 team has been "luckier" than in any other season. And one of the drawbacks of past Falcon teams is that they won a lot of games due to "luck" and that was exposed come playoff time when the level of competition increased. At least that was the narrative of the 2010 season, especially.

... Now I also know I cannot predict the future. The Falcons could continue to win in their "lackluster" fashion, doing just enough to win. Or they could start to lose some of those games. As far as I am concerned, whether you win those games or lose those games, is mostly random. We know that "good" teams tend to win those, and "bad" teams tend to lose them. But what exactly determines who is good vs. bad? We don't really know. We're really only judging that based purely off hindsight. If the team won, then they were/are good. If they lose, then they are/were bad.

And that's not predictive. So the idea that I should be confident because the Falcons in the past have won these games to me isn't really a great idea because in the past, we've been in this situation before, and it led nowhere.

This to me is just another instance of how you see things: glass half full or glass half empty. And at least for me, the Falcons play over the past 4 years suggests to me that the glass is half empty.

The Skins, to a first approximation, have to win the division to get into the playoffs. And if they run the table, then I don't think the Giants do the same.

At this point, the most likely 6th is Seattle.

I'd be happy to see the G men miss out on the playoffs, but I doubt it will happen. The Skins are going to finish 8-8 and miss by a game.

I think the suspensions of Browner and Sherman is going to curtail the Seahawks playoff hopes.

I think the Giants are still the front runners to win the NFC East, and I think Washington needs to win 3 of their last 4 to get in the playoffs, assumign Seattle doesn't also do the same I think.
