8-0 Teams

Postby Pudge » Mon Nov 05, 2012 10:38 am

There have been 9 teams in the modern era (i.e. since 1995) that have started a season 8-0:

'98 Broncos*
'03 Chiefs
'05 Colts
'06 Colts*
'07 Patriots*
'08 Titans
'09 Saints*
'09 Colts*
'11 Packers

Five of those 9 teams would eventually go on to appear in the Super Bowl (indicated by asterisk), the other four would lose in their initial playoff game, always after a bye and always at home.

Here's how the 10 teams rank in point differential:

1. '07 Patriots (+204)*
2. '05 Colts (+131)
3. '09 Saints (+129)*
4. '03 Chiefs (+116)
5. '98 Broncos (+114)*
6. '09 Colts (+109)*
7. '11 Packers (+96)
8. '08 Titans (+96)
9. '12 Falcons (+77)
10. '06 Colts (+59)*

Here's how long their undefeated streaks lasted:

1. '07 Patriots - 16 games*
2. '09 Colts - 14 games*
3. '98 Broncos - 13 games*
4. '05 Colts - 13 games
5. '09 Saints - 13 games*
6. '11 Packers - 13 games
7. '08 Titans - 10 games
8. '03 Chiefs - 9 games
9. '06 Colts - 9 games*

You know, I never expected to be undefeated to this point. I also don't expect to go 16-0. 8 and 8 is staring us in the face.

I sincerely hope that the lack of respect carries us straight to and through the Superbowl. 19-0... Not in my wildest dreams.

Should we also take note that the 03 Chiefs, who didn't make the Super Bowl, also had Tony G on the team?
"I am certainly not afraid to have Brian Finneran on the field. Has he ever not made plays? He just makes plays. He is one of those guys that just makes plays. He is dependable."
