Dirty's Depth Chart v1.0

Postby dirtybirdnw » Tue May 02, 2006 10:51 am

Well now that we are stuck in a very dull and boring off-season mode until camps get going I thought I'd post my first depth chart. Plenty of positions are 'no duh!" but a few should be fun battles in camp.

QB - Michael Vick, Matt Schuab, D.J. Shockley
RB - Warrick Dunn, TJ Duckett, Jerious Norwood
FB - Justin Griffith, Fred McCrary
SE - Roddy White, Kevin Youngblood, Cole Manger
FL - Michael Jenkins, Brian Finneran
TE - Alge Crumpler, Eric Beverly, Dwayne Blakely
LT - Wayne Gandy, Frank Omiyale
LG - Matt Lehr
C - Todd McClure, Austin King
RG - Kynan Forney
RT - Todd Weiner, Quinn Ojinnaka

Practice Squad: Bryan Randall, Adam Jennings, Ben Claxton

RDE - John Abraham, Chauncey Davis
UT - Chad Lavalais, Antwan Lake
NT - Rod Coleman, Jonathan Babineaux
LDE - Patrick Kerney
SLB - Michael Boley, Ike Reese
MLB - Ed Hartwell, Jordan Beck
WLB - Keith Brooking, Demorrio Williams
LCB - DeAngelo Hall, Chris Cash, Allen Rossum
RCB - Jimmy Williams, Jason Webster, Kevin Mathis
SS - Lawyer Milloy, Threat
FS - Chris Crocker, Omar Lowe

Practice Squad: Leigh Torrence, Martin Patterson, Darrell Shropshire

PK - Ryan Rossner
P - Michael Koenen
KO - Michael Koenen (Kick Off)
PR - Allen Rossum, Deangelo Hall
KR - Allen Rossum, Michael Jenkins/Jimmy Williams
LS - Derek Rackley.

This roster has 50 players so it has room to add some guys. I still think we sign one or two veterans namely for S and DE. It's possible we add a veteran to play the #4 receiver. Other then that I don't see many changes.

I agree that we may see more additions at WR, DL, and S. I would not be surprised at all if we see the Falcons add Keion Carpenter closer to camp. Right now, it's going to be interesting with so many young guys working at safety, but none are ready to start 3 or 4 games if need be. This is why I wanted the team to keep Bryan Scott. Having a capable #3 safety is very important. Right Omare Lowe is the most experienced, and maybe a few years down the road Newton, Bowers, Threat, Turnbull, Reis, or Williams could be able to contribute beyong special teams, but none are ready for that now. In fact, Lowe is not much far beyond that point himself.

I read somewhere that if Mathis can come back healthy then they are thinking about moving him to safety. Have any of you heard that?

I do think Threat will be a good signing for us down the road by the way.

I read an interview on AF.com where Mora was talking about moving Mathis to safety, but I am not to sure how effective Mathis would be, he's kinda small

I like the way our defense is sitting up.The biggest weakness I see besides Def Tackle is the off line it not only has questionable starters but 2 rookies bakcing up and the other in king who has he ever played. If the off line playwers get injure the falcon's are going to be in a world of hurt plus they can't play every down.

The kicking game is also questionable so there is still work to do.

In regard to Bryan Scott I'd bet there is a 60/40 chance that Scott gets cut by the Saints and we re-sign him before the end of the off-season.

In regard to Mathis... he'd likely play both corner and safety but I wouldn't be surprised to see Mathis retire. He's the #4 guy on the Corner (perhaps even #5 if Cash beats him out) depth chart and he would be a #2b option at safety. He's over 30 and his knee was shreaded. The only reason he has for coming back is the love of the game.

Yeah, Mora did talk about moving Mathis, and I suspect the Falcons will now that they've added Williams to corner. But you're right, he is rather small and he's never been the greatest cornerback when it came to tackling. But something makes me want to say that when he played with Dallas oh so long ago, he played some FS.

I've been a bit surprised by all the Saints moves at safety, because IMO it's the strongest position besides their starting DEs on their defense. But yes, it does seem more and more likely that Scott will get cut since he will have to beat out two younger players in Josh Bullocks and Roman Harper, not to mention a veteran like Stoutmire, and ST ace Steve Gleason. And that's just to be the top backup in New Orleans. We may have the chance to get him back. I wonder however if the Falcons even try to re-sign him if he becomes available. Being traded usually doesn't fill a player with warm feelings if the opportunity arises to return to their old team. I'm not sure Scott would even want to come back.
