McCown was soooo bad for the Jags last year; you'd think that would have gotten him a roster exclusion, not an inclusion, so I'd take a flyer on Wallace, Rosenfels, or Painter over McCown. That a very cursory guess.

Gaffney should already be signed and our 4 or 5. I'm not sure we have the space for a guy just to be a PR (Parrish), but I have no idea what they are doing there. Quizz? Douglas?

Lutui might be an interest (we kicked the tires on two other Polynesians already) if he's staying under weight, but I'm not convinced ATL will run much power (as someone said in the Ovie thread).

The thought of a run at Alex Barron is a little scary.

Wow, these guys must be really desperate to stay in the league switching to corner back....

Bobby Carpenter was just released. Former first round pick...depth maybe?

DT McClain cut from CAR. I didn't see him play, but his 5 games were 19 tackles, 1 sack. Put that over 16 and that's roughly 60/3, which is a respectable # for a 300# guy.

Was Robertson that good?

McClain was overdrafted a year ago. As a 6th round pick he could have made sense for the Panthers, but they were desperate for DT and they took him way too high in the 3rd round.

He did not play well last year as a rookie, and the fact that they just cut him after 1 year tells you everything you need to know about him. It would be the equivalent of us cutting Akeem Dent this year. At best, I thought coming out of USF, he could have a role/career similar to Vance Walker. But at this point, he's not better than Walker, and no I don't think he's better than Robertson either.

Here's my scouting report of McClain last year: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=14755

As for Carpenter, that guy has gotten about 5 chances in the NFL, and never worked out with any one of them. Why should the Falcons give him a 6th one?

Ok, rather than just nitpicking your suggestions, I offer 2 more for you guys to nitpick...

QB Josh Johnson
TE Kellen Winslow

Two ex-Bucs. Johnson is not a particularly good QB. He's like Dominique Davis, mobile with a strong arm, but never accurate and has not developed the feel for the position over the years that you'd want. Hopefully Davis won't go that way in the future, but the point is that you're not signing Johnson to be a QB, you're signing him to be a WR. The Bucs tinkered with this late in either 2010 or 2011, and I'm wondering if this could be a worthwhile experiment for the Falcons hoping to turn him into a modern day Kordell Stewart?

As for Kellen Winslow, it's pretty simple...who would you rather have K2 or Gallarda?

Two more interesting names to add to the list:

TE Michael Hoomanawanui
OG Quinn Ojinnaka

Hoomanawanui is a good blocker that has some ability as a receiver. As a No. 3 guy, he would be an upgrade over Gallarda.
