Colts plan to take advantage of waiver-claim priority

Kashif Moore isn’t a household name, but he is about to be a trend-setter.
The wide receiver, plucked off the waiver wire by the Colts Tuesday after being released by the Bengals, figures to be the first of many claims over the next few days.
By virtue of last year’s record, the Colts will have the first spot in claim order for any player released who has fewer than four years of service.
“We’re sitting in the catbird seat,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said, via ESPN.com’s Paul Kuharsky. “So everybody that hits the waiver wire now, we’ve been through the first round, and there were a bunch of names there and obviously there’s going to be a ton more guys that hit the streets.
“You know we’re not afraid to pull the trigger and make moves, as long as they’re in the best interest of this team. So I think we’re in a great spot as far as that goes. We certainly don’t want to be there next year at this time, but it is what it is. We feel good about having the opportunity to have first choice at whoever hits the street.”
The Colts could use the help at many spots (that’s how they “earned” the first chance). Any offensive lineman, corner or linebacker who is cut by a team deep at those positions could end up being a Colts player soon.
So any player who makes the Colts initial 53-man roster Friday can’t sleep well, because the bottom of the roster is likely to churn.
