Staring in place of an injured Ahmad Bradshaw, rookie David Wilson stole the show in Friday's preseason game against the Bears, rushing five times for 49 yards while catching two passes for 26 yards.
Wilson went to work on New York's second drive, gaining first downs on three consecutive plays. He rushed for 20 yards on a 2nd-and-12 before reeling off a 15-yard gainer and turning a screen into a 29-yard pass. He earned his yardage, blowing through holes and shedding tacklers. It was about as impressive of a night possible for the No. 32 pick, and one that should solidify him as Ahmad Bradshaw's primary backup. We wouldn't be surprised if he starts cutting into Bradshaw's workload early in the season. Through three preseason games, Wilson has rushed 20 times for 118 yards, and hauled in four passes for 52 yards.
I watched some of the game, and Wilson looked very explosive when he got into space. If Bradshaw stays healthy for 16 games, and Wilson provides a nice spark as a change of pace runner for 10-12 touches per game, the Giants offense is going to be potent once again. Again, with the caveat that their O-line is significantly improved from last year.
