The Falcons spent big money on Ray Edwards in free agency before the 2011 season, but he didn't provide much bang for the buck. He was running some with the second team when I watched the Falcons, which isn't a good sign.

He could soon be in the running alongside Peerless Price for the worst Falcon FA pickup in the past decade.

Yeah, forgot about him. He was that bad that he didn't even register in my brain as bad.

Man this blows.....The sad thing is that he is taking snaps away from guys like Sidbury, The Beer-Man, and Chainsaw Massaquoi.

Yeah, this is pretty disappointing. Anyone know the cap ramifications of cutting him this year or next?

Well to be fair, let's remember that this just may be one day in practice that Prisco happened to be there and saw the Falcons giving Sidbury some first team snaps. I'm 98% sure Edwards will be the starter this year just because of the fact that he's our best run stopper, and Sidbury has yet to prove he is any good there. But if we do get into a situation where much like down the stretch last year, Edwards is being pulled in nickel situations in favor of either Biermann or Sidbury, then it's time to write him off.

As for his contract situation, it depends on how his $3 million option bonus was allocated this year. If that was prorated over the final 4 years of the deal (counting $750,000 per year), then we can't cut him now. He still has $3.2 million of his $4 million signing bonus to be prorated. He has a base salary of $3 million this year, with $2 million of it being guaranteed. If that option bonus is prorated, then his cap hit this year is around $4.55 million this year ($3M base + $800K SB + $750K OB). If the option bonus hit all this year (which I would bet against), then his cap hit would be $6.8 million ($3M base + $800K SB + $3M OB).

But since I don't think that's the case, I don't believe there's a chance we'll cut him. Next year (assuming option bonus is spread out), his cap hit jumps to $7.05M. At that point, he'll have $4.65M in unpaid prorated bonuses, and thus the Falcons could potentially save $2.4M against the 2013 cap by cutting him loose.

Ah Pudge you are rattling up some fine names right there. Priceless Price was the worst, what a shame.
