FLOWERY BRANCH — With the Falcons down two running backs, the team signed Richard Medlin on Sunday.
They released running back Robbie Frey on Saturday and Jason Snelling, who has a lower right leg injury, did not practice on Sunday.
Medlin, 5-11, 200, who played at Fayetteville State of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, was undrafted in 2011 after finishing his collegiate career, which began as a walk-on. He was originially signed by the New England Patriots as a free agent.
Medlin was waived by the Patriots late in training camp last summer. He was later signed by the Dolphins in September and assigned to their practice squad. He was on the active roster for Miami’s season finale.
Medlin was wavied by the Dolphins in May.
Look for Medlin to show up in the kickoff and punt return competition. In 2008, he returned three kicks for touchdowns and amassing 500 yards on 12 kick returns for a staggering average of 41.7 yards per return.
