Ryan completed just 15 of his 60 passing attempts 20 yards or more down the field according to ProFootballFocus.com. That Rex Grossman both took and completed more attempts down the field should tell you all you need to know.

Other than scheme and playcalling, this is by FAR our biggest area on room for improvement.

Even so, Ryan told me he still prefers five-man protection schemes to the more conservative six- and seven-man schemes. Ryan's best attribute is his smarts and he presents problems in the no-huddle package which should be expanded.

He's telling the front office/coaching staff exactly the offense he wants to run, the one that many people here have been saying we should move towards. Spread the field.

Agree Pudge. Either Smitty doesn't want to take the reigns off of Ryan or he has no confidence in his 5 guys up front to protect him. Likely a combination of both.

Yeah this was basically his BC offense, the one his was prolific in. Waaaay overdue, but uber exciting if true.
