That is a lot of coin tied up in your two starting CBs. Grimetime is one of the few players that is worth showing the money on our current roster, but I was hoping they worked out a contract so that he wouldnt have a 10 mill cap hit.

Grimes not signing his tender is not a bad thing. If he signed it, it would be a $10.6M cap hit immediately. Without him signing, the Falcons have their complete $30M to spend under the cap.

Grimes is not signing because it's the only real leverage he really has to force the Falcons to the negotiation table for a long-term deal. If he signed it, they would still have $20M under the cap, which should be ample space for them to be willing to absorb his high cap hit, and thus really no strong incentive to return to negotiating strenuously. If a deal is not done by August, Grimes will almost certainly sign the tender. It's possible that Grimes tries to pull a V-Jax and hold out till October/November this year if a long-term deal is not signed. But it's highly unlikely given unlike the Chargers, the Falcons seemingly want to sign Grimes to a long-term deal, and I don't think relations between Grimes and the team will reach a point in hostility that such a dire move will be done.

Good move, that's a major whole we now don't need to worry about. Grimes deserves the dough, He will make more this year than in his whole career, and he's earned it.
