Q & A: Harry Douglas returns to practice
1:03 pm July 30, 2010, by D. Orlando Ledbetter

FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas returned to the field on Friday for the first time since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee early in training camp last season.

He was limited and held out of some drills.

At one point, wide receiver coach Terry Robiskie said, “Harry get out of that line. I’m not going to tell you again.” laugh.

After the team’s first practice, Douglas chatted with the media.

Q: Can you sum it up, just what it felt like to be out of football last year?

A: It was heart breaking, especially for me because I love the game of football. Once again, my family, the guys here, who I consider family also, they were a great supporting cast. They always picked me up when I was (feeling) down. I just love being around this place.

Q: Is this first day kind of a hurdle that you’re over?

A: Yeah. I was thinking about it last night, about when I got hurt. I was thinking about all of the hard work and time that I put into it. But I can’t dwell on the past. I have to thank God for allowing me to live life and for being out here for this day.

Q: Are you happy that there is optimism about your return?

A: It always feels good when you feel like guys want you around. Especially here, where you feel like we’ve got a great supporting cast. We have a great team atmosphere. . . I thank everyone around here for being so positive and still believing in me.

Q: Did coach (Terry) Robiskie have to tell you to get out some drills?

A: Yes. Once again, I have to trust my coach and my trainers. When they tell me to do something I have to do it. When they tell me not to do something, I need to do it.

Q: Is it hard to hold back?

A: Yes, it’s hard. But it’s all about being smart and taking care of your body.

Q: What would you be doing if your were not playing football?

A: I’d be a lawyer right now.

Douglas is a high character player. It's why I'm more optimistic about his success going forward than another player with a similar injury.
