interesting playoff note

Postby jayfalcon7 » Sat Dec 17, 2005 4:03 pm

I am watching tampa losing to new england which is great. I thought of something.

If tampa loses this game, and it's 21-0 in the fourth quarter. If Atlanta wins at Chicago. If then Atlanta beats Tampa next week, and Carolina wins the next two games.
----Then, Atlanta would play Atlanta in a game for the most interesting implications. If Atlanta wins the game against Carolina, it will take the division because tampa would be one game behind, and atlanta would have the tie breaker over carolina (division record).
If Atlanta loses against Carolina under this scenario and Tampa beats New Orleans in the last week- not only would we not win the division--tie breakers would put us in third place. We would probably not be in the playoffs

This is a stupid post, sorry, but i thought the scenario was interesting

Atlanta can only lose one game thanks to Tampa dropping a game. However we MUST beat Tampa. A loss to Tampa ends our playoff hopes period. A win against Tampa and a loss to Chicago or Carolina gives Atlanta the wild card. Since head to head Atlanta beats out Tampa with a win against them. It does partially depends on strength of victory also; which Atlanta currently has a major advantage in.

So if we beat Tampa by 4 or more, than we have the advantage over them?

If Atlanta & Tampa are tied and split the season series it goes down to a bunch of checks. Division, conference, strength of wins, etc...

Anywho, the Falcons hopes of playoffs are pretty remote right now. Especially the way we are playing right now.
